Cinema Politica Ridge Meadows in partnership with the Salvation Army Caring Place Ministries is hosting a screening of “Here At Home” on October 11 as part of Homelessness Action Week observances in Maple Ridge.
It costs Canadians close to $1.5 billion every year on homelessness! These are costs associated with providing health care services; policing, incarceration and the court system; and shelters. Is it possible that we can lessen these costs and improve lives at the same time? This National Film Board production highlights a novel approach to end chronic homelessness: providing homes. It features ten short film (around 4 minutes each) from cities across Canada that are looking at novel ways of solving our homelessness crisis. This project attempts to answer the questions: “Is it really possible to end chronic homelessness? Is "housing first" the answer? Can we afford it? Is it fair?”
There will be a speaker panel made up of representatives of organizations working with the homeless here in Maple Ridge to improve conditions. Our MC for the evening is former Lutheran Pastor Bob Goos who is a strong advocate for the homeless in our city.
Doors open at 6:30 pm and screening starts at 7:00 pm.
