Event Description

Cinema Politica Ridge Meadows is teaming up with Citizens For Safe Technology (CST) to show "Take Back Your Power".

When BC Hydro rolled out its smart meter programme it stated that these new meters would would save money, make the system more efficient, and provide on time feed back if there are any problems in the grid. Then came the 2013 NSA spying scandal which exposed vast programs to monitor personal communications. Utilities and governments are reaching into your own home, through fast-tracked "smart" meters and spy-ready technology. But what if you have a choice? At stake is in-home surveillance, skyrocketing bills, emerging health risks and hacking vulnerabilities. Take Back Your Power features interview footage from whistleblower Edward Snowden, former CIA Director James Woolsey, former British Columbia premier Bill Vander Zalm, public health investigator Blake Levitt, rights advocate lawyer James Turner, and other experts, doctors and environmentalists. Film producer and transparency advocate Josh del Sol takes us on a journey of revelation and discovery, as he questions corporations’ right to tap our private information and erode our rights in the name of “green”.

This film was named the AwareGuide Transformational Film Of The Year 2013.
