If you have ever wanted to have an impact on your community, this surely is the year to take action.

GETI dates back to its first strategic plan of 2009. Back then, we could not foresee the particular developments of the past two or three years, but we could see what might arise from the unabated use of fossil fuels in a society based on continual economic growth. This year in B.C., we witnessed the negative outcomes of this blind approach in the form of heat domes, scorching fires, and floods.

We established GETI in 2009 to start to work on the long-range changes that we thought were necessary to make our communities more resilient. We have some successes to celebrate. But the events of this past year highlight the need to pull together to accomplish more. While individuals can do much in their own lives to reduce their carbon footprints, there is clearly much that requires collective action. And governments typically do not move until they are sure that the citizenry is behind them. So I encourage you to gather with others of like mind at our AGM to learn what we can do this year.
