My interest in helping communities transition is in permaculture, and want to start putting into action a plan to make a community garden in Maple Ridge for locals to enjoy.

I welcome anyone willing to mentor in this exciting project. I come from a construction background and have some green building knowledge and experience. If you have any ideas or want to get involved please join and help this conversation to grow!

My humble thanks and appreciation,

Darren.

Hey Darren,

I think repurposing unused spaces for community gardens is a fabulous idea.

I passed one on McIntosh a few months back that has an amazing amount of potential.  It's on the north side of McIntosh, right beside the MR Naturopath Clinic (http://g.co/maps/je6zb).

I did a bit of leg work to see who owns the empty property; it belongs to Dr. Spittel.  I still need to contact him to see what his intentions are for the property and whether he'd be open to the idea of having the space used while he waits/prepares to develop on it.

An idea I had for the space was to collaborate with a shelter and provide a space for the members to grow their produce and maybe even produce enough to sell at the market.

So, there's one space.  Let's fill this town with lush gardens!
